Amid heated debate about the rape threats and remarks made by celebrities about Delhi University student Gurmehar Kaur, Kargil martyr Saurabh Kalia's father NK Kalia has said culprits must be punished.
This comes even as Gurmehar, the 20-year-old daughter of a martyr, has decided to withdraw her campaign as she was mocked and trolled on social media for her opinion.
ANI tweeted Kalia's father as saying:
Dignity of a woman is of paramount imp, culprits must be punished:NK Kalia, Kargil martyr Saurabh Kalia's father on rape threats to Gurmehar pic.twitter.com/HznvNHGaUD— ANI (@ANI_news) February 28, 2017
This comes on the heels of war veterans coming out in support of Gurmehar. The Punjab State Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association has offered to help Kaur with filing charges against those threatening her.
Gurmehar had started a campaign against the ABVP, the youth wing of the RSS that was embroiled in the recent controversy of beating up students during a protest near the Maurice Nagar police station. Her campaign had gone viral after which she was called a 'pawn' and Minister Kiren Rijiju said that her mind had been 'polluted'.
This is how Virender Sehwag trolled the girl, dismissing the cause that he had been fighting for:
Randeep Hooda joined in to mock the girl. Some questioned her love for the country and others threatened her.
However in her interview with ANI she had said, "I will not be scared or be cowed down, my father took a bullet for the country and I am also ready to take bullet for the country, I also have the courage to take a bullet for the nation. I want all students to raise their voices against the violence and say that they will not tolerate this."
But on Tuesday she announced that she would not participate in the DU protest against ABVP.

I'm withdrawing from the campaign. Congratulations everyone. I request to be left alone. I said what I had to say.. (1/2)— Gurmehar Kaur (@mehartweets) February 28, 2017
