While Nokia has been hogging the limelight over the last couple of days at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, India's second-highest selling smartphone manufacturer Lenovo launched two new phones in its Moto G series at the event. Both, the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus will be Lenovo's budget flag-bearers this year.
While the phones' specifications feature minor upgrades compared to their predecessors, they sport a metal body design this year for a more premium feel. The Moto G5 has a 5.2 inch full HD display, uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chip for processing power, and has 2 GB of RAM. With 16 GB storage, it features an impressive 13 MP camera with f/2.0 aperture in the rear and a 5 MP camera in the front. The Moto G5 has a removable 2,800 mAh battery.
The Moto G5 Plus, on the other hand, has a bigger 5.5 inch full HD display and, under the hood, it employs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chip preferred by competing phones such as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and the Blackberry KEYone. It has 3 GB of RAM and comes with 32 GB of storage.
The G5 Plus uses a 12 MP sensor with a f/1.7 aperture in its rear camera and a 5 MP sensor in the front. It has a 3,000 mAh battery that can be turbocharged.
Both phones have a fingerprint sensor in the front, and come with Android Nougat 7.0 and Google Assistant. In their design, the phones resembles the Moto Z series phones and the Moto M that was launched in India last year.
The pair is set to be released in India in March and is likely to provide tough competition to devices such as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and Vivo V5. The Moto G5 is priced at $229 and the Moto G5 Plus at $299. So, it is likely that this year's models might be a bit more expensive than Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus. Lenovo will be betting big on the two phones for the Indian market.
