While the prime accused who molested a prominent Malayalam actor in a moving car is still absconding, the film industry in the state has come out in support of her and has demanded stringent action against the accused.
The prime accused, Sunil Kumar a.k.a Pulsar Suni, reports suggest, has been involved in criminal cases in the past.
The News Minute reported that Sunil, who used to be the actor's driver had engineered the abduction and had several other criminal charges against him.
While the police has already made three arrests in the case, there are reportedly seven members in the gang that committed the crime.
The News Minute reported Malayalam film producer Suresh Kumar as saying he had registered a case against Sunil after he had followed his wife's car.
Meanwhile PTI reported Malayalam actor-director Lal as saying that Kerala DGP Loknath Behera had told him that three other such incidents had taken place in Kerala.
"During our conversation, the DGP told me that three similar incidents had happened in connection with Malayalam film industry recently. But no one has come to know about it...maybe, because it was suppressed using money or left unreported fearing humiliation," Lal told PTI.
Film industry wants action
Members of the Malayalam film industry came out in solidarity with the actor who was molested on Sunday evening at the Durbar Hall ground in Kochi.
The Indian Express quoted Manju Warrior, who is supposed to be a close friend of the survivor, as saying, "I met her yesterday after I came to know about the incident. I am proud of her as she is fighting back despite going through such ordeal. I pray to god that it doesn't happen to any other girl."
Director Major Ravi told PTI, "If a celebrity can go through this kind of torture from the rowdy gang, it can happen to any of our sisters. Shame on you all the system who can't take action on these culprits."
Other celebrities present also demanded strict action.
NDTV quoted superstar Mammooty as saying, "She has the support of several people who love her, be it the common people, film fraternity, police and government. She has my word that I am with her. She must stand strong."
The incident, reportedly, took place when the actress was returning from a shoot and two of the accused entered the car.
The police said that the actor was held in the car for an hour, after which she was dropped near her home at around 10.30 pm.
