NEW DELHI -- A man in his 40s allegedly murdered his wife by bludgeoning her to death in east Delhi. Subodh Kumar reportedly killed his wife Manisha on Saturday night during a fight with her and then slept with her body next to him for three days. On Tuesday, while others were celebrating Valentine's Day, he is believed to have hacked her body into pieces with a saw, and hung her head from a peg in his room, reported The Times of India.

"We have registered a case of murder and attempt to destroy evidence against Subodh," said Omvir Singh, deputy commissioner of police (east) told TOI.

According to reports, Kumar had an extra-marital affair and when his wife found out, she asked for a divorce. The couple have two young daughters aged 12 and 9 years, and they had been sent to Manisha's parents' house just a couple of days before the murder.

Neighbours told TOI that the couple would frequently have fights. It was when the stench from Manisha's rotting body raised their suspicions on Tuesday did they question Kumar about her. He reportedly told them that he had murdered Manisha and told them "to stay away from his personal problems", reported TOI.

He apparently tried to dispose his wife's body off earlier but he was unable to do so without raising alarm. Cops found several injury marks on her body, indicating she was beaten up before she was killed.
