Caught On Camera: Congress Corporator In Maharashtra Attacked, Shot Dead

THANE -- Eight armed assailants carrying swords and other sharp weapons attacked and killed a Congress corporator in the Bhiwandi-Nizampur civic body on the night of 14 February.

Manoj Mhatre was returning home from a meeting at around 9.30 PM. When he got out of the car in front of his residence in Oswalwadi, the unidentified assailants brutally attacked him.

According to police statements reported in the Hindustan Times, the assailants fired three rounds of bullets. Mhatre who was anyway injured from the swords caught one of them.

Mhatre was taken to Jupiter Hospital in Thane but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.

The DCP of Bhiwandi Zone-II Manoj Patil told the PTI that apparently Mhatre was actually a resident of Kalwa in taluka Bhiwandi but there had been threats to his personal safety due to some personal enmity for which he was shifted to Oswalwadi.

The police are still investigating the case and no arrests have been made so far.
