AIADMK General Secretary VK Sasikala, whose bid to sit on the chief minister's chair was cut short by a Supreme Court verdict in the disproportionate assets case, has now brought her nephew TTV Dinakaran back into the party and has given him the post of deputy general secretary.

Dinakaran had been suspended by party matriarch J Jayalalithaa in 2011. This was when she had suspended Sasikala, her husband M Natarajan and 12 other relatives of Sasikala.

The Hindu had reported sources as saying in 2011 that it was because of their interference in administration and "political overreach".

While some Jayalalithaa loyalists may see this as a betrayal to the former party chief, Sasikala has her own justification.

NDTV reported her as saying that he had apologised to her in writing and in person.

This comes at a time when Sasikala is trying to maintain clout in the party as she is due to go to jail soon.

She has been asked to surrender on Wednesday by the Supreme Court.
