CHENNAI -- Deepa Jayakumar, niece of late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, today joined the AIADMK fraction supporting O. Panneerselvam. She along with Panneerselvam visited Jaya's burial place in Marine Drive and announced her stand in ongoing stand-off between V K Sasikala and Panneerselvam.

"Will work together in future," said Deepa Jayakumar after meeting Panneerselvam.

Deepa also welcomed the Supreme Court decision convicting AIADMK General Secretary VK Sasikala in a disproportionate assets case, saying it was a "good and long pending verdict." "This is a good verdict, a just verdict as those who have to go to jail have gone. This verdict was long pending and most welcomed," she told reporters here.

"Now it is clear that those who indulged in corruption have been taken to task. I have always been saying that Sasikala could never be accepted because of the assets case," she said.

The Supreme Court today restored AIADMK chief V.K. Sasikala's conviction in the Rs 66 crore disproportionate assets case and sent her back to jail, making her bid to become chief minister of Tamil Nadu short-lived and sparking a fresh battle for power in the ruling party.
