In a tragic incident in Pune, an IT professional hanged himself to death after sending a selfie of himself with a noose to his friend.

On 2 February, Abhishek Kumar killed himself in his apartment in Pune while three of his flat-mates were in their rooms.

According to a report in the Pune Mirror, 23-year-old Kumar hailed from Kanpur and was working with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). He hanged himself at around 11:30 am with a noose made out of a bedsheet.

The reason behind the suicide is still unknown.

Police officials from the Hinjewadi Police Station told the Mirror that the 3-bedroom flat was occupied by six people, with 2 men living in each room. On Thursday, Kumar, who usually went to work at around noon, locked himself up in his room at around 11 am.

"Within a few minutes, a housemate received a panicked call from Kumar's friend, who told him about the strange selfie. All three of them rushed in to his room by breaking the lock, but found him hanging," a police official said.
