After several allegations of human rights violations, controversial Bastar IG, SRP Kalluri, is set to go on a long medical leave.
If reports are to be believed, Kalluri has been sent on forced leave.
According to a report in NDTV, Kalluri has applied for leave for a kidney transplant and his junior Sundar Raj will take charge of the region.
"It is government decision and I have nothing to say on it," Kalluri told News18.
Kalluri had recently courted controversy after activist Bela Bhatia was attacked earlier this month. It was reported that he had sent abusive messages to activists and journalist who had requested for her safety.
As the Indian Express report suggests, Kalluri has been accused of saying that activists in the Bastar region were Naxals.
Last year, it was Kalluri who had alleged, after the murder of a tribal man in the region, that DU professor Nandini Sundar and other activists were involved in the case.
He had alleged that the wife of the murder victim had accused Sundar for the murder, which the wife denied later.
The National Human Rights Commission had summoned Kalluri in November over the furore after Sundar was charged with the murder.
The Hindustan Times reports that several journalists had quoted Kalluri telling them that they were not welcome in the region.
The newspaper reported that Kalluri may not return to his Bastar posting.
