Commenting on the Budget that the government has called 'path breaking', Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray said that there was no need to present the Budget this year since the promises from last year had not been fulfilled.

Speaking to the media right after the Budget, Thackeray said:

The Shiv Sena chief had earlier protested against the idea of holding the Union Budget before the upcoming elections in five states in the country.

"We feel that ruling BJP may try to manipulate and mislead people in the Union Budget. What was the need to announce the budget on 1 February, instead of March, as was the norm since Independence," IANS had quoted Thackeray as saying.

He had pointed out that many panchayats, zilla parishads, municipal councils and corporations were going to polls in Maharashtra because of which the model code of conduct was enforced.

Several Opposition parties have criticised the Budget.

However, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday lauded Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's annual budget saying it will give an impetus to growth, people welfare and help all sections of the society in unleashing their true potential.
