The row over Padmavati just got more bizarre with a BJP leader announcing ₹10,000 for anyone who hits filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali with a shoe.

According to The Indian Express the reward has been announced as ₹10,000 per hit by BJP's Akhilesh Khandelwal who is the chairman of Madhya Pradesh's Hosangabad municipal corporation.

Bhansali has seen a lot of trouble over 'historical facts' of his upcoming film 'Padmavati' starring Deepika Pudkone and Shahid Kapoor. It was only a few days ago that he was assaulted by fringe group Shree Rajput Karni Sena on the sets of the film in Jaipur.

India Today quoted Khandelwal as saying, ""They (such film personalities) are trying to distort our history to show us in poor light in public. We can no more remain silent. We consider it our responsibility to rein in such forces."

Khandelwal made the announcement to his Facebook followers:

In another post, Khandelwal narrating the story of Rani Padmini, said that Bhansali and other seculars were playing with history and they would have to pay for it.

The makers of the film have repeatedly clarified that there were no love scenes between Padukone, who plays Rani Padmini, and Allauddin Khilji, played by Ranveer Singh.

Bhansali had to halt the shooting of his film in Jaipur after he and his crew members were assaulted.
