The Trump Administration has banned the entry of citizens from seven Muslim countries for 90 days, and Pakistan could be added to the list. The seven countries are Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
"Those were the seven countries that both, Congress and the Obama Administration, identified as being the seven countries that were most identifiable with dangerous terrorism taking place in their country," White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus Priebus said to CBS News.
"Now you can point to other countries that have similar problems, like Pakistan and others. Perhaps, we need to take it further. But for now, immediate steps, pulling the band-aid off, is to do further vetting for people travelling in and out of those countries," he added.
Visitors from Pakistan and Afghanistan are subject to extreme vetting, according to executive order, PTI reported.
Responding to the news, cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan said, "I pray that Trump also stops visas for Pakistanis as I believe that it will help us develop our own country. Besides, we will also give him (Trump) Iran-like response...."
"The day we bring back the merit system back to Pakistan, all our best citizens will return and work for the betterment of this country," Khan said. "We will have to fix Pakistan and stand on our own two feet. And the day that we decide this is our home and we have to fix it, we won't beg for loans from the US and the International Monetary Fund."
