Xiaomi today announced that the company has been able to sell more than a quarter of a million units of newly launched Redmi Note 4 in the first flash sale. The sale took place on 23 January on Flipkart and Mi.com.

The company launched the phone in three variants in India on 19 January. The highest end variant with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal memory has been priced at ₹12,999. The other two variants with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal memory and 2 GB RAM and 32 GB internal memory have been priced at ₹10,999 and ₹9,999 respectively.

These sales numbers come hardly as a surprise as the phone's predecessor Redmi Note 3 was one of the most sold devices in India last year. And Redmi Note 4 keeps the familiarity of the phone impact with a few upgrades here and there to maintain the high-reliability factor.

"Over the last few years, we have seen an increasing demand for affordable, premium-grade smartphones drawing interest among consumers. The phenomenal response we have seen with the Redmi Note 4, once again indicates the trust and value that our customers place on Flipkart, when it comes to shopping for their favorite mobile phones." said Ajay Yadav, Head - Mobiles, Flipkart

The second flash sale will take place on 30 January with an expectation of similar numbers. Last year, Xiaomi managed to grab the third spot in the smartphone market in India. This year, with better offline distribution, local manufacturing, and early model launches it would aim to take on Lenovo to compete for the second position in the market share.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi's global VP Hugo Barra has resigned from the post to go back to the US to join another big startup. This big announcement would surely have some impact on the company's future launches.
