In India, success stories written by women are especially sweeter, since far too many remain unwritten in the crush of patriarchy and stifling traditions skewed heavily against them. One among those few heartwarming stories is that of 25-year-old, Mumbai-based Steffi Pareira's. Steffi's just cleared her Chartered Accountancy finals. What's so special about that, you ask?
Her father Francis drives an autorickshaw in the city and her mother works as a house help.
Needlessly to say, it was with the help of her parents that Steffi, who studied commerce at Ramniranjan Jhunjhunwala College in Ghatkopar, cleared the second group of the CA finals in her third attempt.
Mumbai Mirror quoted her as saying, "I am very happy that I could finally fulfil the dreams of my parents. Both my father and mother have struggled a lot but made sure that I had all the resources available. I owe this success to them."
Her parents were determined to give their daughter the best education that they could afford. The report suggested that Francis had to pay her fees in instalments and sometimes even take a loan for her education.
Now that she has her degree, Steffi has started her own tax consultancy service, the report said.
