FIR Against Indian YouTuber 'Crazy Sumit' Who Kisses Women On Streets As A 'Prank'

'Crazy Sumit' has since removed all his videos.

Some days ago, a video circulating on social media showed a young man, who goes by the name of Crazy Sumit, accost women, kiss them and then run away. Shot in New Delhi's Connaught Place area, the video supposedly shows a harmless prank being played on the unsuspecting women by Crazy Sumit. But it was widely called out for the grossly unacceptable behaviour portrayed in it.

The original YouTube video has since been pulled down but not before many others re-posted it.

On 7 January, NDTV reported that police were investigating the case and all of Crazy Sumit's social media accounts, including his YouTube channel, The Crazy Sumit, were under the scanner.

According to the Hindustan Times, an FIR has now been lodged against the 'prankster' whose real name is Sumit Verma. The report said that FIR under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code and 67 of IT Act (punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) has been lodged against Verma.

The Delhi Police has enlisted the help of Facebook and other social media platforms to help them investigate the case. Although none of the women in the video have filed a complaint, Delhi Police wants them to come forward and lodge a complaint.

The Hindustan Times report also mentioned that Verma had deleted his other 'prank' videos which had titles such as 'Peeing on people prank,' and 'Seducing girl in washroom prank'.
