In the latest display of fanaticism, the supporters of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who died on 5 December at the age of 68, immortalised her face on a massive 68 Kg idli.

This gargantuan idli was showcased on the Marina Beach in Chennai.

Jayalalithaa has always commanded a massive fan following and the expressions of their love for her have swung between borderline obsessive to absolutely crazy.

From getting her likeness tattooed on their bodies to one of them voluntarily nailing himself to a cross demanding she be reinstated as CM, their devotion to Amma has always had a touch of the bizarre.

After her death, AIADMK claimed that at least 77 supporters died out of grief upon hearing the news of Amma's demise.

Very few come close to the AIADMK in the party's love for its late chief except, perhaps, the BSP who are known to celebrate their supremo Mayawati's birthday each year by getting cakes that weigh as much as her age and enormous garlands.

Then there is Mulayam Singh Yadav, of course, who hosts a three-day festival at his native village, Saifai, each year to celebrate his birthday, complete with celebrities and VIPs. Needless to say, his supporters too let his age determine the weight of his birthday cake.
