NEW DELHI -- A 40-year-old man was arrested for allegedly beating his mother in northeast Delhi's Shahdara area, police said on Saturday.

The accused was later released on bail.

A neighbour of Rajindari Devi (70) had shot a video on 24 November where her son Nand Kishore was seen beating her at their home.

The neighbour had filed a complaint at Shahdara police station against Kishore but later withdrew it "due to pressure" from her son and other locals, but on Friday, activist Kundan Srivastava filed another complaint and the accused was arrested and sent to Tihar Jail.

The videos posted on Facebook by Srivastava showed the elderly woman lying on the ground, wrapped in blood-stained clothes. She was taken to GTB hospital for treatment.

Acting on the complaint filed against victim's son, he was arrested and sent to jail.

"We have booked the accused under sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and 352 (assault) of IPC," a senior police officer said.

The case is under investigation, the officer said.
