Delhi winters are famous, for the smog, fog and for being just being very, very cold. Come November, suitcases stuffed with warm clothes are taken out and one can see several blankets being aired out on different balconies in the neighbourhood in preparation for winter. And then you wake up one morning and realise winter is here. With the smog bit thankfully done with right after Diwali, the city woke up shrouded in a thick blanket of fog on Wednesday morning. A look outside the window, and all you see is perhaps specks of green leaves amid an ocean of grey.

This was after the minimum temperature fell one notch below normal in the national capital on Tuesday even as humidity levels remained on the higher side. The weatherman had however predicted a clear day.

Though the massive fog is of great inconvenience to motorists and cause of great panic for those taking flights, it makes for great wintry photographs. Here are some from this morning:

This is how it looked for those taking the metro...

Bikers had to be extra careful

While some wondered how exactly does one get to work

9 am looked like dusk...

All one could see of cars were bumper lights

This is what they saw when they looked out of their windows and balconies

And Delhi roads looked like this

Some landed in Delhi airport to a surprise

This one made fun of Delhiites going overboard with excitement about the fog
