India's newest mobile network provider Reliance Jio has begun a program to deliver SIM cards directly to consumers' homes. Currently in beta or testing phase, the program has commenced in selected cities. It will be rolled out in a phased manner across India.

Users can't sign up for home delivery, instead Jio is approaching them through various mediums, asking them if they would like to try the Jio SIM. Consumers can then schedule the SIM's delivery at their doorstep.

"This is a new way to reach out to the consumers who don't have a Jio SIM. We will be approaching more savvy customers at first for this program. The company is working on making the delivery efficient and super fast as well," a source, speaking informally and off the record, told Huffpost India.

As of now the home delivery program is available in Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Kolkata, Chennai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad.

Jio also is offering home delivery of SIMs for group housing arrangements, where a housing society in-charge can register on the Jio website and get SIMs delivered to their premises.

Reliance Jio is trying various initiatives to sign up as many users as it can. According to a recent report, the company might be considering producing low-cost, 4G VoLTE ready feature phones. It is also likely to extend the Jio Welcome offer for existing users until March 2017.
