Former J&K Governor Lt Gen Srinivas Kumar Sinha Passes Away

NEW DELHI -- Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Srinivas Kumar Sinha passed away on Thursday after brief illness.

He breathed his last at the R.R. Hospital, New Delhi. He is survived by his wife, son and IFS officer Y K Sinha, who is at present Indian Ambassador to Sri Lanka and is moving for his new posting to the UK, and three daughters.

Meanwhile, President Pranab Mukherjee has paid his condolences, saying:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid his condolences to the former Governor of Assam and Jammu and Kashmir saying:

Lt. Gen. Sinha was born in Gaya, Bihar, the son of Mithilesh Kumar Sinha, IP, the first Indian Inspector-General of Police of the state.

In 1997, he was appointed Governor of Assam and on June 4, 2003, he took over as Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.

Lt Gen Sinha had joined army in 1943 and has also served as India Ambassador to Nepal and as the Governor of Assam.
