After weeks of speculations and leaks, OnePlus made the OnePlus 3T official last evening. The upgraded version of the successful OnePlus 3 smartphone will be available from 22 November in the US and Europe. There is no clarity on its India launch yet.
As expected, OnePlus 3T substitutes Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 processor used in OnePlus 3 with Snapdragon 821. The new chip is meant to provide more power efficient performance with better graphics support. The other major change comes in the form of increased internal storage. Besides the 64 GB offered in OnePlus 3, the upgraded version has a costlier 128 GB option as well.
The 3,000 mAh battery with Dash Charging technology was one of OnePlus 3's most talked about features. OnePlus 3T sports a bigger 3,400 mAh battery, so one can expect it to last easily a whole day without charging. Although the quick Dash Charging can always provide the necessary juice within minutes.
The front camera has been a focus of Chinese smartphone makers this year and OnePlus decided not to be left behind. So, it has upgraded the front camera from 8 MP to 16 MP, with a Samsung sensor instead of one by Sony. The rear camera specs remain the same, while the company has added a sapphire glass protection around the lens along with software enhancements to improve low light photography.
Other design aesthetics and specifications are not very different from the OnePlus 3. The phone still has a 5.5 inch HD AMOLED display, and it too sports a 6 GB RAM and charging support through USB C.
The 64 GB version of the phone is priced at $439, while the 128 GB version is priced at $479. OnePlus 3T will be available in soft gold and gunmetal color variations. The 128 GB version will only be available in the gunmetal version.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that OnePlus 3 will eventually be killed off as OnePlus 3T makes its way to other markets. OnePlus executives told The Verge that this step was taken not because of the supply issues but because they saw an opportunity to build a better phone.
