BULANDSHAHR -- A 17-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide here over not possessing smaller denomination notes, police said on Tuesday.

Sumit, a class 12th student of Jaypee Vidyapeeth, was found hanging from the ceiling at his house in Anoopshahr area yesterday, Circle Officer Shrestra said.

The boy had asked his mother to give him smaller denomination notes, but she refused him as she herself was running out of cash, police said.

A case has been registered following a complaint by the deceased's grandfather Mohan Singh, Shrestra said.
