Residents of Delhi and NCR woke up to a thick blanket of smog on Wednesday, that reduced visibility considerably and produced a burning sensation in the eyes.

This year, PTI reported, the pollution after Diwali fireworks is the worst in three years. Various monitoring agencies including Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), Central Pollution Control Board, Pune-based SAFAR and Centre for Science and Environment were unanimous about the severity of the air quality in the national capital and its surrounding regions after a night of fireworks.

On Wednesday, the thick curtain of toxic smog over Noida dissipated only after midday, and residents tweeted about respiratory problems in addition to watering of eyes.

Stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana have also added to the problem, according to experts.
