After constantly battling external forces that threatened to derail its Diwali date with the audience, Karan Johar's latest romantic drama Ae Dil Hai Mushkil finally opened in theaters today.

First, it was the inclusion of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan that triggered a wave of protests from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, which threatened to vandalise cinema halls if the producers went ahead with the release.

Caving under pressure, Johar appeared in a video, articulating his deeply patriotic feelings, but despite that he was pretty much forced to make a commitment to donate Rs 5 crore to the Army Welfare Fund, a gesture that was rejected by the Army itself.

Then, there was an issue with the Censor Board too, which trimmed the intimate scenes from the film. Could a film about unrequited love have gotten any more organised hate?

Well, it seems so.

Early on Friday, a WhatsApp message, purportedly revealing the plot of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, began doing the rounds.

While it isn't very uncommon for some over-enthusiastic, sadistic folks to ruin the cinematic experience for others, keeping in mind the political turbulence Ae Dil... already went through, this seemed like an extended, last-ditch attempt at sabotaging the film's box-office prospects.

Why would anyone leak out the plot of a romantic drama like Ae Dil Hai Mushkil? It isn't exactly The Sixth Sense or a Kahaani, films that rely on that one scene that changes everything.

Fortunately for those who read the message, we have it on good authority that the plot described is wildly incorrect.

So what is the actual story then?

Guess there's only one way to find out.
