In an email to the board members of Tata Sons, its former chairman Cyrus Mistry has written that he is "shocked" by his "unprecedented" removal and that he was not even given a chance to defend himself.

On Monday, the board of Tata Sons sacked Mistry and brought back Ratan Tata to run the company for four months. Out of the nine members of the board, which includes Mistry, six voted to remove him and two abstained.

Mistry has written that the "board has not covered itself with glory" and that he was not given "a chance to defend myself," NDTV reported.

Mounting financial woes, decline in philanthropic activities, a costly legal battle with telecom partner, DoCoMo, and Mistry's decision to sell assets including its steel interests in UK, had led to the abrupt sacking.
