A Pakistani trooper deployed with the country's paramilitary police force Frontier Constabulary (FC) slapped a female journalist in Karachi while she was reporting on issues citizens face in the National Database and Registration Authority office in Nazimabad.

The footage of the incident, which shows the policeman slapping the reporter after she reproaches him for bothering her cameraperson, has gone viral. After slapping her, several gunshots can be heard, even as the camera falls to the ground in the confusion. Karachi police have registered a case against the FC guard for aerial firing and assaulting the modesty of a woman, reported The Financial Express.

The reporter who was assaulted has been identified as Saima Kanwal of Pakistani TV channel K-21. She posted video footage of discarded bullet shells following the incident.

Interestingly, NADRA officials have also reportedly filed a police case against the TV channel for "creating hindrances" in their work.
