Aamir Khan, who was last seen in Rajkumar Hirani's blockbuster PK, unveiled the trailer of his next film, Nitesh Tiwari's Dangal, on Twitter today.

Khan was so nervous before the launch that he claimed to have had a 'sleepless night.'

The actor has been working on the wrestling drama since the past one year and even put an abnormal amount of weight for the role, which is based on Mahavir Singh Phogat, a real-life wrestler who trained his two daughters for the Olympics.

As far as the trailer goes, it makes the film look promising, one that doesn't believe in beating around the bush and gets straight to the point.

It also challenges traditional gender roles as Mahavir, who is initially disappointed on having daughters, decides to train them for Olympic glory.

One can see that the film will make a powerful social comment as Mahavir's worldview transitions from conservative to progressive, as he thwarts traditional gender roles.

Unlike this year's Sultan, also a wrestling drama, there isn't a love story to be found here as the narrative's sole focus is on Phogat's training that he gives his daughters.

Khan looks in fine form, having mastered the accent and the body language of an aging, has-been wrestler while TV star Sakshi Tanwar seems credibly muted.

Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra, who play his daughters Geeta and Babita, look completely in character and the fact that Dangal is their first film, making them refreshingly free of baggage, makes them come across as more believable.

Helmed by Nitesh Tiwari, who has previously co-directed Chillar Party and Bhootnath, Dangal is a Disney UTV production that will open in theaters on December 23.
