CHANDIGARH -- A 35-year-old married woman was raped and murdered allegedly by her relative along with four others in Haryana's Mewat district.

The main accused, a close relative of the woman's father-in-law, had gone to pick her up from her parents' house in Mewat on Tuesday in a car.

Instead of taking the woman to her in-laws' home, he along with four other people raped and murdered her before dumping her body, police said.

"We have registered a case of rape and murder against the main accused and others," Mewat's Superintendent of Police, Kuldeep Singh said on Wednesday.

The woman's body was discovered by some passers-by who informed the police.

The SP said police had also found some beer bottles and the victim's broken bangles from near the crime scene.
