Following a threat from "Pakistan-based terrorist groups," and a threat perception analysis by the Intelligence Bureau, the editor-in-chief of Times Now, Arnab Goswami, will be provided security by the Home Ministry.
Goswami will be provided 'Y' category security cover which will include round-the-clock protection from 20 guards including two personal security officers for close proximity security, the Hindustan Times reported today.
"Goswami is being given security on the basis of a threat-perception analysis by the IB. We will go by the IB recommendation. He faces threats from Pakistan-based terrorist groups due to his comments against them on Times Now," said a home ministry official told HT.
The Home Ministry is likely to ask the Maharashtra government to make security arrangements for Goswami who is based out of Mumbai. Since the terrorist attack, which claimed the lives of 19 soldiers in Uri on September 18, the Newshour has repeatedly spoken out against terrorist organisations.
Other journalists to receive security of varying categories in the past include Zee News's Sudhir Chaudhary, Samachar Plus's Umesh Kumar and Ashwini Kumar Chopra
