After a meeting with the Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau (VACB) on Friday, Kerala Sports and Industries Minister EP Jayarajan resigned.

A probe has been going on into the controversial appointments of Jayarajan's relatives in key posts in state public sector undertakings.

According to The News Minute, CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told the press:

"By sending in his resignation, Jayarajan admitted to having committed a mistake. The party decided to accept the resignation since it would help maintain the dignity of the party."

Jayarajan has been under fire from the opposition parties ever since reports about the appointments had surfaced. Both Congress and the BJP have been demanding his resignation.
