Tamil Nadu Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao held a meeting today with state chief secretary Rama Mohana Rao and state ministers O. Panneerselvam and Edappadi K. Palanisamy to review the administrative situation in the state.

"The Chief Secretary to Government briefed Honourable Governor about the administrative affairs that are being carried out on a day-to-day basis and also other general matters," an official release from the Raj Bhavan said.

With Chief Minister J. Jayalalalithaa under medical treatment for almost two weeks ago, the governor sought to enquire after the day-to-day running of the affairs of the state, especially the preparations for the upcoming visit of a high level technical committee on the Cauvery water sharing issue.

"The Governor enquired about the arrangements made for the visit and information to be presented to the committee to protect the welfare of farmers of Tamil Nadu," the official statement from the Raj Bhavan added.

Palanisamy, who holds the portfolio of public works, highways and minor works, explained the arrangements and related matters to the governor in detail.

Opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) had today sought an interim arrangement to "effectively" handle issues likes the Cauvery row till the time Jayalalithaa returns from the hospital.

Party treasurer and Opposition leader in the Tamil Nadu assembly MK Stalin pointed out that according to yesterday's medical bulletin, the chief minister will require longer stay in the hospital. He said the DMK president M Karunanidhi and the party wished her speedy recovery.

"But till the time she comes (back), there should be a acting Chief Minister or a Deputy Chief Minister, which would be taken up by ministers who are next in the hierarchy and take decisions in matters like the Cauvery issue. This is our stand," Stalin, himself a former deputy CM, said.

Jayalalithaa, 68, was admitted to the hospital on September 22 after she had complained of fever and dehydration. Since then she is under treatment by local doctors, an expert team from AIIMS and a specialist visiting from the UK.
