Ever since Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was hospitalised, her followers have been monitoring the condition of her health obsessively.

Unreliable messages, video clips and photos have popped up on social media. One particular picture, of a woman on a hospital bed, have gone viral after it was heavily shared on WhatsApp groups.

The photo, which looks like it was clicked inside an intensive care unit (ICU), shows a woman with an oxygen mask on, lying on a hospital bed. The News Minute reported that the photo was an image from a hospital's website in Peru.

Moreover, the photo is from 2009.

The hospital, called EsSalud, located in Peru's capital Lima has posted a series of photos on its website.

Late on Sunday evening, Apollo Hospital in Chennai confirmed that Jayalalithaa is being treated there for 'infection' and is 'responding well' to the treatment.

"Chief Minister, who is undergoing treatment, continues to improve. Apollo Hospital obtained an expert opinion from International Specialist and Consultant from the Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital, London, Dr Richard Beale who was flown in from the United Kingdom on 30 September," it said.

The DMK has demanded that her photo be released. The AIADMK had dismissed the demands saying that the hospital was regularly releasing bulletins about her condition.

"The hospital has been sharing bulletins about her health regularly. Even after sharing the bulletins, what do they expect?" AIADMK spokesperson CR Saraswathi told PTI.
