A 22-year-old college student from Jammu and Kashmir was arrested on Sunday in Udaipur for allegedly sharing a Facebook post that praised slain Hizbul Mujahideen leader Burhan Wani.

The Indian Express quoted Circle Officer (Udaipur East) Bhagwat Singh Hingar as saying that Mudasir Rashid was remanded to 15 days' judicial custody.

A complaint was registered with the city police by one R.S. Vyas, Director (Foundation) of Techno India NJR Institute of Technology of Udaipur, based on which Rashid, a third-year student of civil engineering, was arrested under IPC sections 153A (Promoting enmity among different groups on grounds of religion, race, etc.) and 153B (Imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration).

Around 200 youths belonging to ABVP and an independent students' organisation called Chhatra Sangharsh Samiti on 27 September vandalised property and created commotion at the Techno India NJR Institute of Technology after Rashid shared a Facebook post (by one Imran Rather) praising Wani.

Rashid, the report said, was suspended and booked for sedition.
