Just hours after India announced that it had conducted surgical strikes across the Line of Control in Pakistan occupied territory, the sight of a streaking meteorite had many people in Srinagar in a tizzy.
According to the Press Trust of Kashmir, onlookers in the capital city of Jammu and Kashmir mistook the meteorite for a missile and scrambled into their houses, believing that Pakistan had retaliated against India's attack.
On Thursday, villages that lie within 10 kilometres from the border in Punjab and in Jammu and Kashmir were being evacuated in anticipation of retaliatory action by Pakistan.
All schools falling inside this area have been closed until further orders, and the emergency ward of the Civil Hospital in Pathankot has been readied for any eventuality.
On Thursday, India announced that it had carried out "surgical strikes," sending special forces to stop militants from sneaking into Indian territory and attacking Indian targets. Indian officials said that Indian troops had killed militants numbering in the double digits and returned safely to their base.
