A woman in Hyderabad carried her husband's dead body in a motorbike for several kilometres, after allegedly killing him with the help of her lover, NDTV reported.
Pravallika Mendem, 25, had a row with her husband Pullaiah Mendem during which she banged his head on the wall and hit him in the groin. Her 16-year-old nephew, a student of Class X, with whom Pravallika is allegedly having an affair, joined her in the attack.
Once Pullaiah was dead, the duo borrowed a motorbike from a neighbour and set off with the body. On their way, they were accosted by two beat constables, who suspected foul play from the way the body was propped against the boy, with its feet dangling close to the ground.
Initially, the couple did not stop, but did so only after they were given chase. Under police interrogation, they claimed they were carrying the body of a man who was drunk and had passed out near their home. Since they did not have the means to call an ambulance, they had borrowed a vehicle from a neighbour to do this, they said. Under further scrutiny, they confessed to have killed the man themselves and gave out his real identity.
Pullaiah worked as an assistant marketing supervisor at Kodada, Nalgonda. He and his wife had been sent away from their hometown after the latter's affair became public knowledge. Pullaiah went into depression and took to drinking once they shifted to a rented apartment in LB Nagar, The Deccan Chroniclereported. On the day of his death, Pullaiah went home, allegedly drunk, to find his wife with her young lover. The discovery led to a heated exchange of words, followed by violence, which led to his demise.
A case of suspicious death under Section 174 of The Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) has been registered and the body sent for autopsy. Investigations will proceed after the report is known.
