A student of University of Hyderabad allegedly committed suicide in his hostel room early this morning.

N Praveen Kumar, the first-year student of Fine Arts at University of Hyderabad, was found hanging in his room 204 in the L Block of UoH campus at 4 am by other students.

His body was immediately shifted to the university health care centre where he was treated by the medical officer on duty. He was then shifted to a nearby private hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Gachchibowli Inspector N Ramesh said that the reason behind Praveen's death is not yet known. No suicide note was found inside his room during the search.

"His roommate said that Praveen was alone in the room as he had slept in his friend's room last night," inspector Ramesh told Indian Express.

In the morning, when Praveen's roommate went back to room 204, he found the door locked from inside.

"When Praveen did not open the door after several minutes of knocking, he and other inmates broke open the door and found him hanging. He was new here and no one really knew him that well," the police said.

According to reports, Praveen was a resident of Shadnagar of Mahbubnagar district, 50 km away from Hyderabad and had joined the University two months ago.

Praveen, 25, was from a middle-class OBC family. His father N Narasimhulu is an employee of BSNL. His brother told reporters that they didn't have any financial problem and Praveen never told him that he was unhappy.

In one of the notebooks that the police recovered from Praveen's room, he had written a couple of sentences on September 9.

"Why am I unable to study well? Why am I so scared of everything? Why am I unable to mingle with anyone?..... I have to study well and do something otherwise there is no meaning to my life. Why am I always unhappy? Why do I have this feeling that I am a lonely person?" he wrote.

The security officials in the university have locked his room. Further investigation will be taken up by the police shortly.

In January, a Dalit PhD scholar Rohith Vemula had hanged himself in his hostel room at the same university after alleging persecution by university officials over his caste. His death led to massive student protests.
