At least 130 pilots appearing for job interviews at Air India in the past nine months failed the psychometric examination, according to a report in Hindustan Times. The airlines has interviewed around 413 candidates since last December, and cleared the simulator and technical exams before failing the crucial mental health test, unnamed Air India sources told HT.

The test, introduced by Air India last year after a Germanwings pilot deliberately crashed his plane, has been earlier criticised by pilots. The airlines has since found it difficult to hire enough pilots after several failed the psychological testing.

Even though pilot suicides are rare, there is a history of such incidents, reported Vox last year.
