The backlash against Mocambo restaurant for refusing to serve a woman who was accompanied by her driver has prompted the Kolkata-based joint to establish its presence on social media, and announce that it is looking into the now infamous episode.

"Recently, the reputation of the restaurants has unfortunately been questioned due to a publication made by a person on Facebook and comments on other social media platforms. We have come online because fake social media posts are being put up by people not emanating from us. Mocambo has not been on any social media platform until now," the Mocambo post said.

"In light of a recent incident, an inquiry is being made and we assure you that follow up action will be taken on the revelation of the truth," it said.
