A group of school girls have complained that a man, whom some allegedly identified as Malayalam actor Sreejith Ravi, flashed them from a private car and took photos of them on his cell phone on 27 August before fleeing the scene. Although his name was not mentioned in the complaint, the actor was taken into custody after the car's registration number was traced back to him, according to reports.

The News Minute reported that the students noted down the number of the car and lodged a complaint at the Ottappalam police station in Kerala's Palakkad district.

The actor has denied involvement in the incident and told the Malayalam newspaper Manorama that although the number of the car was his, there could be some "mistake".

"The number of the car provided by the girls is mine. But I was not involved in any such incident. The girls might have mistakenly noted down the car's number. I have explained my version before the police," he told the paper.

Sreejith, 40, is the son of noted actor TG Ravi. There is confusion about the identity of the person involved in the incident. The Manorama report suggested that a youth was seen sitting inside a car which was parked near the Pathirippala market in Ottappalam.

Shornur Deputy Superintendent of Police Suneeskumar R told the New Indian Express that Sreejith was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which is non-bailable, Section 509 of IPC (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and various provisions of the Kerala Police Act.
