Jigisha Ghosh Murder: Death Penalty To Two Convicts, One Gets Life Sentence

28-year-old Ghosh was abducted and killed on 18 March 2009.

Delhi court awarded death penalty to two convicts and life term to another in 2009 Jigisha Ghosh murder case on Monday.

Additional Sessional Judge Sandeep Yadav awarded the death penalty accused Ravi Kapoor and Amit Shukla, while the third accused, Baljeet Malik was sentenced to life in prison.

The Delhi Police had been seeking death penalty for the three convicts saying they killed Ghosh for 'pleasure' and showed no remorse.

"The convicts committed the crime in an uncivilised and barbaric manner. The level, degree and gravity of brutality makes it fall in the category of rarest of rare," observed Additional Sessions Judge Sandeep Yadav, reports Indian Express.

Observing that Jigisha was the sole bread winner for her family, the court also directed that Jigisha's parents be compensated by the convicts.

The parents will be compensated with Rs 6 lakh from the fine paid by them.

28-year-old Ghosh, who worked as an operations manager in a management consultancy firm, was abducted and killed on 18 March 2009 after she was dropped by her office cab around 4:00 AM near her home in south Delhi.

The three convicts robbed her of her gold chain, two mobile phones, two rings and debit and credit cards and then killed her.

Her body was recovered three days later from a place near Surajkund in Haryana, police had said.

More details awaited.
