Starting from today Nexus devices will be receiving OTA (Over The Air) updates of Android's latest version 7.0 Nougat.

Google announced on their official blog that the first devices which would get a taste of these are Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus Player, Nexus 9, Pixel C, and General Mobile 4G which is an Android One phone.

The search giant also confirmed that LG's V20 will be the first phone released with Android 7.0 Nougat.

Back in March, Google announced that this time, it is taking a different approach for the newest version of Android. It released a developer preview under the new beta testing program where users can enroll just by registering on a website. Then the registered users started receiving OTA updates of the developer preview version of Android N.

Veteran mobile reporter Evan Blass had tweeted last month about Android Nougat's release in August. He had also said that Nexus 5 is almost certainly missing out on the update this year.

It was a rollercoaster ride for the name of Android 7.0 as well. Google had opened up voting for the name from Google IO. A lot of entries were in the final list including India's Nankhatai and Neyyappam. And when people were almost certain that Android's next version will be called Nutella Google surprised everyone by choosing Nougat.

The updates have started rolling out to the Nexus devices already. It is probable that if you are already on the developer preview of Android Nougat, you'd get the update faster. The users who are on Marshmallow might have to wait a day or two longer.

If you are one of those who can't wait for the OTA update. Android Central has a great guide on how to flash the update manually to your nexus device.

Meanwhile, Google has extended their Beta program beyond the stable update to give a taste of future releases to the consumers.
