Google Launches A Simple Video Calling App Duo

Beware Facetime!
Google

Google announced today the launch of their standalone and simple video calling app Duo. The app was announced at Google IO in May this year alongside the messaging app Allo.

The search giant announced in a blog post that starting today it will start rolling out the app worldwide. Duo will be available for both iOS and Android.

The app's aim is video calling and it sticks to that. You just have to verify your number once and you're set to call anyone. You just have to click on that person's contact icon and the call will get through.

Interestingly, Google has omitted integration with any of their accounts. Before the Google IO event here were a lot of hopes that Google will launch a better version of Hangouts.

One of the unique features of the app is that when you will see the caller's video before you even answer the call. Google has decided to name this feature Knock Knock.

The search giant has used WebRTC standard to make the app fast and reliable. The company claims that Duo will work on slower connections as well. WebRTC is the standard which handles the bandwidth and quality.

Since its launch, Duo is being compared with Facetime a lot. Apple users always had this app to call each other with a single click. But Duo presence on both the platforms may change this. You can download the app from App store or Play Store.
