During a recent visit to the Gir forest national park with his wife, cricketer Ravindra Jadeja clicked several selfies with lions in the background on his mobile phone. He then posted them on his Instagram and Twitter account saying he is having a 'good time'.

The Gujarat Forest department has now imposed a fine of Rs. 20,000 on him for taking those selfies, say reports.

The photographs, which went viral on social media, were posted days after Gujarat forestry officials warned of the dangers involved in taking selfies with lions.

The forest department had ordered an inquiry into the issue.

"We have collected Rs. 20,000 fine from Mr Jadeja for flouting rules inside the sanctuary during his visit to Gir forest in June this year," A.P. Singh, Chief Conservator of Forest, Junagadh range told The Hindu.

Tourists are prohibited from getting off the sightseeing jeeps during the safari. However, the cricketer had flouted that rule.
