In an interview with The Indian Express, Shankar Lal, president of Akhil Bharatiya Gau Sewa Sangh, an affiliate of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, extolled the many virtues of cow dung, ranging from protection against radiation to the treatment of deadly diseases, but he pointed out that only Indian cows produce dung and urine which is like nectar.

Shankar, 76, who drinks cow urine for health reasons, told The Indian Express that he as well as other RSS workers, apply cow dung on the back of their cellphones to protect themselves from radiation.

"It is fresh cow dung. I have put it to save myself from the harmful radiations of the cellphone. It works, believe me," Lal told the newspaper. "If cow dung can treat cancer, why can't it save us from a phone's microwaves? "

Lal said that cow dung would only work its magic if sourced from an Indian cow. "But the gobar should be of our Indian desi cow and not western monsters like Jersey or Holstein," he said. "Their dung and milk are nothing but poison."

While the science behind Lal's claim isn't clear, in 2007, a student and teacher in Uttar Pradesh made a cow dung battery which could charge mobile phones and light up bulbs, an innovation which they said was especially useful in areas which suffered from power outages.

Earlier this year, scientists in Gujarat, said that they had found gold in urine of cows in Gir.
