Miracles do happen. Some may not agree but a mother who was reunited with her daughter after 10 long years surely does.

The victim, who went missing in June 2006, returned home on 24 July this year, reported the Times of India. When she arrived, her mother fainted thinking that she had seen a ghost.

Her father passed away in 2008 while protesting at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, a year after the police had closed his daughter's case file.

In the last ten years, the daughter -- who cannot be named because she is a rape survivor -- was kidnapped, enslaved, raped repeatedly, sold into marriage, widowed because of her husband's drug habit, dispossessed of her two children and sold to a dance bar.

"I told myself she was abducted and killed in Nithari since everyone spoke about the brutal killing of children there," TOI quoted the mother as saying.

After a tiff with her mother, late one evening ten years ago, the daughter left the house and her nightmare began.

A Maruti van stopped beside her, a couple jumped out, pressed a cloth soaked in some drug to her nose until she fainted, and drove away with her.

After coming to her senses, the victim found herself locked up inside a room with some other girls in Ambala, 200km from Delhi.

Some days later, she was sold to a man from Gujarat. She worked in his field and slept in the pump room, where she was allegedly raped every night by the man's son.

"When I resisted, he slashed me with a knife and burnt me with embers," the victim said.

After two years, she escaped and reached a village near Kothara in Kutch, only to be caught again by the couple who had kidnapped her.

In 2010, she was sold to one Jarnail Singh in Bathinda, with the promise that she will be set free. But, that was not to be. She was sold in marriage to a drug addict, who was also 20-years older than her.

"I was given a new name; two men bid for me. My husband turned out to be a driver. He used to burn me with cigarettes after getting high at night. I bore him two sons in two years, but he died days after the second boy was born," the victim said.

After her husband's death, her brothers-in-law started demanding sexual favours from her and when she refused, she was thrown out of the house and separated from her two children.

After enduring all this suffering, she met a girl from Delhi who turned out to be her saviour.

She gave her a cellphone and some money to return to Bathinda.

It was then that the victim decided to return home after 10 long years.

"I do not know how I will get justice, but I wish my children won't suffer the way I have," she said.

A case will be registered on the basis of her statement after her medical test on Wednesday, sources in the police said.
