Three persons were arrested by police in highway robbery and gang rape case produced at Bulandshahr court on August 1, 2016 in Bulandshahr.

Hours after they were pulled out of a cab and gang raped in a field in Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh, the nightmare did not end for the mother and daughter, the victims of the brutal crime. The mother said the doctor at a government hospital allegedly refused to believe them and asked her shaking and bleeding teenage daughter to "sit quietly in a corner."

"I had bruises all over...my daughter was bleeding...but the doctor didn't believe us. She said we were lying about her condition," the 35-year-old woman told NDTV.

Three persons have been arrested in the case of highway robbery and gang rape and sent to judicial custody for 14 days. Uttar Pradesh police on Sunday also detained a dozen others after launching a massive hunt for a gang of dacoits suspected to have gang-raped the mother and her daughter.

The woman from Noida and her minor daughter were dragged out of their car by the robbers near a highway in western UP. They were travelling with other family members to their native place in Shahjahanpur to attend a family ritual, according to agencies.

IG Meerut Sujeet Pandey has been named by the government to head the probe into the gang rape incident while Principal Secretary (Home) and DGP of Uttar Pradesh were directed to ensure speedy investigation.

The gang rape has sparked a political slugfest with Opposition parties accusing ruling Samajwadi Party of "protecting and appeasing" criminals ahead of Assembly polls and senior minister Azam Khan describing it as an outcome of political conspiracy against the UP government, according to PTI.

The NDTV report also said that it took the family hours to convince the police to send a team. The incident occurred at 1:30 am while the cops arrived after 5 am, the cab driver's brother said.

The traumatized father told the Times of India that his daughter asked him for help when she was being dragged into the fields. "Papa!", the girl had cried out, he said. "I won't be able to look her in the eye."

The family has not been able to go back home. They have been living at a friend's house who now wants them to move out.

"We will have to change our house and also my daughter's school," he said.
