In another alarming case of gross ill treatment of a child by a teacher, a 7-year-old girl was severely beaten with a belt in Bengaluru for not finishing her homework.
When the victim, a Class 2 student of St. Joseph School in Nelamangala, returned home from her tuition classes on Tuesday night, her parents were horrified to see bruises all over her body.
On being asked, she said that her tuition teacher, Latha, had beaten her with a belt for not doing the homework.
According to the Nelamangala police, infuriated with the girl for not finishing her homework, Latha allegedly grabbed a leather belt and 'beat the little girl black and blue'.
"We learned that Latha would beat students who were weak in studies, but the parents used to blame their own children," TheHindu quoted an investigating officer as saying.
In spite of many parents having noticed bruises on their children's bodies, this is the first official complaint registered, the officer said.
"But this is the first complaint we have received against the teacher. A case has been booked against her," he said.
The 40-year-old teacher has since been on the run.
