Samsung launched their next flag barrier smartphone Galaxy Note7 yesterday at an event which was held in three cities in the world simultaneously. The phone will be available for pre-order from today and it will start shipping from 19 August. India launch for Note7 will be held on 11 August in New Delhi.
While the specifications of the phone turned out to resonate the earlier rumors and leaks, Iris scanner and IP68 rating were definitely the highlights of the phone in the show. Along with that, the company has focused on the tight security and photography as well.
Note7 has a gorgeous 5.7-inch QHD AMOLED display with curved edges. As always Samsung has managed to impress everyone with the display. The phone is protected by IP68 rating, that means it is dust and water proof.
The phone will be running on either Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 or Samsung's own Exynos processor based on the locale. It sports a 4 GB of RAM, although it was expected by some that the phone will ship with a 6 GB RAM.
Samsung has decided to go with 64 GB of internal memory. The second slot in the side tray will either act as memory expansion slot for SD cards till 256 GB or act as a second SIM slot depending on the country. India will most likely get the dual SIM version.
Galaxy Note7 sports a 3500 mAh battery which is a sizable battery to carry you through a day's usage without charging. Additionally, the phone uses the USB C type slot instead of the micro USB used in the Galaxy S7 series. This will help in faster charging and data transfer.
The camera department has always been a strong point of the Note series and the legacy is being carried on this time. Note7 will be using the same camera modules used in the Galaxy S7 series. The rear camera is 12 MP with an aperture of f/1.7. The front camera is of 5 MP with the same aperture. Both the cameras will have the dual-pixel low light imaging technology.
The phone boasts a ton of security features supported by hardware. In the hardware department apart from the usual fingerprint scanner, Samsung has introduced an Iris scanner which scans your eyes for security. The company has also improved Knox software with secure folder functionality where you can lock your apps and files.
Note7 will ship with Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 with TouchWiz customization on the top. Samsung has also upgraded the beloved S-pen with better pressure sensitivity and more functionality. The tip of the S-pen is now just 0.7 mm thick as compared to 1.6 mm of the previous iteration. The phone is now loaded with better Air commands for S-pen, smart GIF select, and scroll and capture.
Samsung also unveiled a new Gear VR at the event, which will support Note7 along with the older phones. The new Gear VR will have both USB C and micro USB support with the improved experience.
While the phone will start shipping from 19 August pricing is left to everyone's imagination. But given the feature set available in the phone it won't be priced less than $700. Note7 will be available in 4 colors Black Onyx, Blue Coral, Gold Platinum, and Silver Titanium.
