A housewife from Hanumangarh district in Rajasthan reportedly gave away ₹1 lakh to a scrap dealer by mistake, as the cash was tucked between the pages of a book that she had sold to them as scrap.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, one Shanti Bhadu was cleaning her house and decided to sell old books and newspapers to a scrap dealer for ₹5 per kilo. However she was unaware that a small fortune was kept in one of the books — an odd place to keep cash.

The dealers who purchased scrap from her found the cash and decided to return it since it didn't belong to them.

"We couldn't sleep the whole night. We collect scrap from so many houses, but how could we figure out where the cash had come from," the dealers told HT.

Reportedly, the dealers Surendra and Shankar Verma checked the source of the cash — a book — and tried to see if there was any hint to its origin. Luckily, one of the books in the group had a name written on it.

The brothers retraced their steps and finally found and returned the small fortune to the Bhadu family, who were unaware that their cash was missing.

Praising the scrap-dealers for their honesty the Bhadu family called them farishtey or angels.
