A Dalit teenager, who was allegedly tortured and raped several times by the same man, died at Max Hospital in Shalimar Bagh on Sunday.

The 14-year-old was allegedly drugged raped by her neighbor, Shivshankar, last year, and he once again kidnapped the teenager ahead of a court hearing in May, and proceeded to torture and rape her.

Her parents are safai karamcharis in a hospital.

The Dalit teenager, who was forced to drink a corrosive substance by her tormentor, died a painful death, Delhi Commission for Women Swati Maliwal said in an anguished tweet.

Maliwal said that the Delhi police only arrested Shivshankar after intervention of the DCW.

"The girl was fed a corrosive substance which completely destroyed her internal organs and she died a very painful death," Maliwal said.

"There are so many questions we can raise over the police action in this case? Why was the accused not arrested? Why was the Prevention of Atrocities Act not applied in this case?," she said.

The DCW had the teenager shifted from Lok Nayak Hospital to Max Hospital, a private facility, on Saturday.

The teenager was kidnapped for a second time in May, just ahead of a hearing in the first rape case for which an FIR had been registered in December, last year.

"For two months she suffered everyday. She was forced to drink an acid-like substance after which she could not eat anything. Drinking water was also painful. She would vomit blood," the girl's uncle told The Indian Express.

While Shivshankar has been arrested, the family has claimed that four others persons including a woman responsible for torturing the teenager are still roaming free.

The teenager has alleged that it was the maternal aunt of the main accused who had kidnapped her, earlier this year.

"How many Nirbhayas does Delhi want? We all simply wait for next Nirbhaya to die," Maliwal tweeted.
